2 Dof Arduino Simrig

Postby Tombo » Mon 5. Aug 2013, 22:38

Hi,
i've read very much in this forum and now plan to build a 2Dof Sim with wiper motors and Arduino Nano as controller.
I've build a steady rig sometimes ago which i plan to change into a motion rig.

19531960

I just made a draft of a maybe futre look. It looks very near to the Sim of floriske because most impressions are from his thread so thank you alot for sharing your work. Also thanks to everyone who has answered my private messages or posts until *
I carried most of the things I need togehter. I want to build a little Platform maybe out of wood im not shure yet, driven by 2 wiper motors.
Or has anyone a better idea for the marterial of the platform. Because Aluminium profile is very high cost and steel ist heavy. And the cost should be as low as possible. :D

First i builded some motor mountings and bearing holder because i want to mount my motors like floriske did.

Now i startet with the electrics. Let me say one thing. After testing some chinese hbridges and never getting a good result i recommend to buy a higher cost hbridge. I use the the VNH5019 arduino shield from pololu http://www.pololu.com/product/2502 which costs about 50€. Also i use an arduino uno with xpid firmware from sirnoname.

I put these two things together in a little plastick box. It was very cheap, 3,95€ and is very robust and you can easy cut holes for cables into it. http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/523100/Universal-Gehaeuse-Polystyrol-Schwarz-135-x-95-x-451-St

Here you cam see a wireing demo for the correct pins please look into the Arduino code provided by sirnoname. http://www.x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=723

Here you can see the whole sim assembled.

I decide tobuild everything from wood because i have no welding maschine.

2351
For U Joint i used the red marked part out from an Bmw from the yunk jard and welded it on to 5mm steel plates wchich are screwed with M8 screws to the wood.

Here you can see my motor and pot mounting. I've added a bearing for stress reducing of whiper motor axis because of the high weight of the platform.
For motor power supply i'm using a hp dsp 600 pb server power supply which can easyly be modded and is very cheap.

Here is my handbrake and dashboard. Handbrake is madewith a simple linear pot connected to clubsport pedals.
For Dashboard Code and Topic go here http://www.x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1083

I've made this on a little pcb where nano can be sticked in. The handbrake is made with linear 10k Linear Potentiometer connected to the clubsport pedals and adjustable spring. For more info take a look here http://insidesimracing.tv/forums/topic/6037-diy-handbrake-project-picture-heavy-with-sort-of-tutorial/

I also modified my V1 pedals with cluch and hydraulic brake mod. The micro switch is for vibrations at clutch working zone which is in developement *

Waiting, building, burning, waiting ... welcome building a dynamic playseat !!! :-)
Have fun !

what happend with your first Arduino : what mistake was lethal ... and we should avoid ?

cables between bridge and arduino must be as short as possible

:) yeah but building and burning is the funniest Part. I can't say what was killing my arduino but There is No more recognation from from my PC. Of course i will shorten the wires i just let them long enough until everything is ready.

edit:
Now I'm back home from work and my new arduino nano just arrived today. Made some tests and seems to work fine. Maybe i'm able to build the motor holders and pot leavers in the next days.

Today i had some time to build the Motor and bearing holders. Motors are mountet like seen many times in the forum. The bearings are just mountet in an 6cm thick wood plate. I drilled a 19cm hole in it and pressed the bearings in.
I hope tomorrow i can build the axis where i want to link the pots to.

Since if builded The platform Pivot and motormonting, i startetwith the electrics.
But there I stuck really.

I try to use an Arduino with an dual h Bridge and 2 car wiper motors.
I' ve isolatet the Motors and wired everything like in the picture and followed the Tutorial from Sirnoname step by step.
I've broken 2 Hbridges, last time it worked for about 10 min, then one motor begins to turn slow and hbrdige got down.
So please can you confirm the wireing below and mybe give me a reason for my hbridge knock out. I tried it without fuse.

Because i really don't know if i should buy another hbridge.

Hi!
That's a pity!
Your wiring looks okay for the pots...
but I can not read the Hbridge pinout nor the optoisolator : can you upload their specs ?

- Did you try with toy's motor and battery first?

- Maybe your Hbridges are too cheap?...

Hi,
here is the opto board i'm using
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9118
and thats the Hbridge
http://www.ebay.de/itm/221197919764?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I don't test it with small motors, because i don't have some. What hBridge will be recommended?
Maybe this one? http://www.exp-tech.de/Shields/Pololu-Dual-VNH5019-Motor-Driver-Shield-for-Arduino.html
But i don't know how to change code for this hbridge.

Hi Tombo!

- First bridge, there are no specs in the ebay description: hard to say if it's fine

- Second, the "Pololu Dual VNH5019" has same pinout as Motomonster, so my arduino code will work fine!
Have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=943
You may find everything you need: code and hbridge reference

- I do not use opto-board...

Hi,
I've already read your post very carefully, but i'm not shure if i should use this method, because it uses Uso output.
For me as a beginner the Gui Interface and Synaptrix output seemed to be easier for me.

Maybe i'll give it a try with the cheap Dx Moto shield.
