Hi ,

That seems to be the lcd connection. On the first page from this topic under the tittle dataloging ,Thanos show how the data come from the amc1.6 with the terminal application.
You can download this application on first page terminal2113 zip connect your board and test if the communication is good.
parameters 115200 , 8bit ,no parity ,no check (i don't remember exactly).
If the communication is OK that should be the lcd, connection.
There is a jumper near the pot for yhe lcd contrast did you sold it ?
And what a profesional PCB !!
Very good !
Regards
Look at th picture. If the holes are not metalized I think you have to sold a thread between the 2 face of the pcb.

Greetings,
Thanks for the info on terminal app. No soldering required for the jumper next to the LCD pot, it was put in by the folks at Sunstone PCB, and I checked with a multimeter before populating the board...good continuity.

Hi jsmith2307,
Sorry I 'm at the end with my help.If the connection is ok checked with terminal app the problem is the lcd connection.
One question:
Could you give the reference of the component to connect the lcd to the board.I'm boring to solder each connection 2x16 and that take so many time.
Best Regards

Greetings,
The component used was MOUSER Electronics 517-929870-01-20-RA, to hook LCD up I used MOUSER Electronics 517-929665-01-10-EU you can cut to length. The Ribbon is a floppy cable, but you have to alter it a bit. Hope this helps you out!

Hi jsmith2307,
Just an idea I made this mistake .I inverted the connectors between the board and the Lcd.

Well I just got finished with my new AMC 1.6 and I loaded up FTISP for AMC1.61.1f, and it loaded up fast. The LCD screen indicted all the usual things, however after powering down, and reapplying power I got nothing but the squares that were on it before I first loaded the program. I again loaded the program up, and still nothing but squares. I purchased two atmega644’s so I tried the other chip and it loaded up just fine. Once again all the usual things were there, after reapplying power I have nothing. Any ideas what is going on? Did I miss something? I'm at work and this is not the computer that has X-Sim3 on it...could that be the problem? When I power up the old AMC1.5, I get a full read out no matter if the device is connected to the computer or not!

Hi,

Maybe the batch of ATmega644 chips you got cannot handle overclocking. I compiled a new version of the firmware 1.1f in the first post of this thread that contains firmware for 18.432Mhz crystal. Try it.

Other than that the behavior you describe is like the Atmega644 fuses didn't set correctly to use the external crystal clock for some reason. Or the jtag interface was not disabled correctly by the fuse options in the FTISP batch file.

Best Regards,
Thanos

Greetings! :D :D
Thanos, that last posting you made did the trick! I’m now running 18.432 mhz and the program stuck to the chip! Once again thank you, my friend, for pulling me out of the muck!

Hi Thanos :
since I have a communication problem with my hand made FTDI module ... not a programing one ... just a Rx/Tx problem ...So waiting for my ordered ATMEGA644 and the 22.1184 crystals .

And for future improvements ...I have a little question ... can we use a Bluetooth serial link module like this one on the AMC1.6 side . virtually connected to a laptop built in Bluetooth serial com port or we use a Bluetooth adapter ... that x-sim can direct it's communication to it .

What do you think ?

I see that supports speeds up to 115200bps, but I'm not sure if it can handle fast transitions of 1ms... maybe...

What do you suspect in ? it's the same speed that you're using my friend ... 115200bps is the data transferred rate/bits per second ...
any way ... I'm glade you liked the Idea ... I guess it worth maybe for now .
