AC Motor Choice

After perusing this site for a while, I have now decided to build a new racing simulation platform.
I am thinking putting a motor on each corner of a seat/pedals platform, not sure if that makes it a 4dof or not.

Like most everybody here, while I am dreaming looking at some of the very expensive components that can be purchased right now with a simple swipe of my credit card, I unfortunately do not ...

Affordable or DIY 3-phase AC Induction?

If this existed we'd be using it. But since I don't see many posts about it I assume it doesn't.

Any affordable frequency inverters out there, preferably with vector control...?

hey speedy! You mentioned recently you'll be using 0.5hp 3-phase units with inverters that take 120V single-phase and output 3-phase 220V. Can you tell us more about it?

The power supply is free, and AC technology is superior (IMHO) in many ways. But there's a ...

Using scooter DC motors-question

Has anybody tried using the scooter motors from these guys:http://www.electricscooterparts.com/motors24volt.html

(The 24V 500W model #MOT-24500X3000B on that page is the one I'm currently looking at. Cross-compatible with MY1020 motor)

If it is indeed an MY1020 equavilent, then its specs would be (supposedly) this (so I'm more interested in your guys' experience with them, if any):

MY1020-24V.jpg

$90 and reasonable shipping with those potential specs has my attention.

Worm Gears-worst efficiency

hey guys -

For anyone still at the design stage wondering what to buy for their motors I wanted to offer some friendly advice. Avoid worm gear types whenever possible. I realize they can simplify things greatly sometimes (motor+nice gear reduction in one compact unit), but they offer typically very low efficiency.

So, your 250W motor turns into a 100W motor instantly coupled to a typical 40% efficient worm gear transmission (20:1 reduction ratio). Only ...

How big the motor need?

Hi guys,
After 3 years with wiper motors now i'm looking forward to re-design my sim and controller. After a lot of research and reading i decide to use gearmotor for my new sim. The question is How big the motor required to lift about 180-200kg weight at 60-80RPM? now i'm working on electronic part to make sure they are compatible with VFD. I use Siemens MICROMASTER Vector 6SE3212-1BA40 with 0.5hp induction motor for testing ...

wiper motor no backward ?/only forward

Hallo

DC Motor Torque

Mod remark: This topic is a result of a discussion going on in my build topic. I think it's interesting for some of you to read so I decided to split the discussion into this topic.

Remember, some torque figures are stall, so they may be higher. My big motors are 20nm standard, stall torque would be a lot higher.
A standard wiper is usually about 6-10 nm, not sure if thats stall or normal ...

Feed back pots

I have questions regarding feedback pots for a 2DF joyrider.

I have read that pots between 10K and 100K K will work.
Q1. What is the optimum resistence variation from the travel end point to end point?

My wiper motors rotate about 720 deg end point to end point.
This means I will need to use multiturn pots connected directly OR use gearing to rotate the pots more.
Q2. Can I use a 10 turn ...

Placing of Motors & actuators

Hi folks,

This is a general enquiry. How critical is the siting of the motors and actuators in relation to the pivot point in a 2 motor set-up? Does anyone have a way of working out the optimum distance from the pivot point?

Thanks in anticipation,
Mike ;)

Testing New Hardware

Today I had the posibility of testing a new hardware. I think It's a new way of investigation (but not cheap).

I have tested a 3000 rpm servo motor with integrated encoder and connected to a servo drive and Arduino Uno board. I am surprised with results with a simple sketch. I am sorting the images and information for posting.
