Analog Gauge Servo Commander

Here you can ask general questions about sim building, not related to the various hardware sections

Nope, aircores are included in real dashboards, you will use with aircores original car hardware.
However, steppers are also a solution.

Hi,
so i've tried again and the servo moves better but you can't name this a gauge :D
i think this will be too complicated for me and wait until maybe someone will post a suitable solution which is easy to rebuild :?

Hi ,

If time i should test these analog gauge because a friend would like these instead digital display.

@Sir:
When I was searching about stepper motors I found this oem gauges:

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251045674946&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I didn't buy one because I don't know if the driver used for stepper motors ( my previous e*ay link on previous post) will work.

I tested already a little code for running the stepper motors I bought and it works. As I said these stepper have gear ratio 1/64, i think these gear ratio too high.I have 2 solutions :
- trying to remove this gear ratio
- put the same ratio 1/64 to speed up the outupt shaft to get back the originally motor speed.

At this point I am not firm with this aircore hardware ;)
The arduino community has there own forums which can help.
Sorry, can't help with this.

One thing is sure for RC servos: arduino can be better PWM than the servo commander. A soundcard cannot reach this resolution.
Arduinos with higher PWM resolution can control better, nano is not the end of the world. Ask the arduino community for more resolution etc.
Perhaps the library is not the best one? Make a video how it moves ...

Today i played a bit around with my gauge tried to adding some gears because the 120° movement from the pot won't be enough for a kmh gauge. With my gears the servo has to turn about 45° degrees that the needle will spin 360°
But you said:
Servos do have some lower resolution and can reach about 100 positions per 180° (or less, I do not remember exactly). Not very easy to get a change of 1kmh with +/- 2kmh with 100 positions at a 200kmh skala.

If i understand right i will get less positions with only 45° servo movement. Is there another way to increase the needle movement without loosing positions?

Here is a video without gears

after a lot of reading i decieded maybe to use stepper motors with a shield. Are there any cons about stepper motors? Here's a libary

here another libary for gauges with this stepper and arduino http://guy.carpenter.id.au/gaugette/2012/01/05/what-is-gaugette/
