Here you can ask general questions about sim building, not related to the various hardware sections

Hi Thanos!

I have seen on thier forum that you tried the pedals input
but did you try any motor?

Thks
Mat

Hi Mat,

I ordered a $1000 integrated servo motor to try it. I might use my AC motor in meanwhile to see the difference from my own FFB controller... ;)

Thks for your reply
Waouh!! It is a beast!
Could you share a link about your own FFB controller?
I have only found 6Dof related content on your blog :|

I would maybe try with my Mige 130ST-M10010...

The new servo motor has 20Nm max holding torque...from 0 rpm speed! I think I'll use gloves to try it ;)

I don't have a link as there is a little time available to spend in preparing presentation for it. Its not ready yet anyway, its still on protoboard with wires all over the place... But in the very near future I hope to release it. It just needs shape up.

Don't use a pot, use a quadrature encoder. There are cheap ones available. It turns continuously and outputs a pair of pulses that are 90° out of phase. The direction and rate is easily decoded from these in software or a very simple digital circuit. By counting the pulses you can trivially keep track of the angle. You may need an additional centre-lock switch so that it knows where to start when powered on. Because it turns continuously there are no issues with coupling, gearing, etc - can be driven 1:1 from the steering shaft.
