6dof new project, question about motors

Postby dualin » Thu 26. Dec 2013, 04:25

Hi, I'm thinking about make a new project. I want to make a 6dof sim, and I'm looking for a cheap motor, that fit the minimum requeriments for this project.

I've found a very cheap motors (about 40€/ud) with this specs.

Rated voltage: 24 V DC
Idling speed: 48 rpm
Rated torque: 16 Nm

I've the specs table too:

2391

I think that the motor has about 200w (216w 16 Nm 9A 24V in the table), but I'm not sure.

I don't know if that motors are enough for a 6dof project, but I think that it's possible.

What do you think?

Can I start my project with 6 of that motors or I need to find a better ones? Which one? Why?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english

Best regards

Here some simple math...

16 newton meter equals with 163.1545936 kgf/cm
If you need to have an actuator arm with size 10cm, you can lift only 16kg ...

For a 6DOF, that the motors are working parallel to lift the load, you can have a load of:

16 * 6 = 96kg but not really. That is just static load (motor stall).

To move this mass against gravity at speeds of 1m/s2, you will need 200N force...
http://easycalculation.com/physics/clas ... /force.php

Then you will have to add some more complex motion that exists in these 6DOF platforms that only 2 or 1 motors need to lift that load to perform certain motion cue...

I would say a more realistic figure for a motor for a 6DOF platform should be at least 50N (Newton)

+1: the Smolka Nidec are not powerful enough for this use...
or you would have to have very short levers to withstand the effort (static + dynamic!)
A 6DOF without a good excursion (range of movment) would be useless!

Keep on searching, it's interesting!

Hi, I'm in a early beta of my new 6dof, but I can say that the smolka motors are fine for this project. Look this video, only with lateral effects, rfactor with automatic driving, without a cockpit, wheel and pedals, only a car seat to try. As you can see I must to hold on to the wall to keep from falling. Now I've a lot of job, but I think that I'll get.
