Com Port Errors, JRK, XSim3, PC?

Postby Bruceaust » Wed 5. Sep 2012, 01:48

I am running 2 JRKs via Xsim 3. Unfortunately I am getting Com Port Errors on the PC running converter that drives the JRKs.
I am not sure if the error is caused from Xsim, JRKs, or my PC.
Has anyone had any similar issues.
Any advice is appreciated.
Sim is running great except for this little glitch.

Were they working before?
is the x-sim program running in online mode or offline mode.
Another user is having issues with initial setup.

I think it has been happening on odd occassions since starting with the JRKs . But I have no way to measure whether it is the JRKs.
Yeah everything works fine then I just get an error for Com 8 or Com 9 ( JRK 1 and 2). I have to disconnect the USB to get it to run again. I am thinking of wiring a reset button to the JRKs, but I really would like to know what is causing the errors. I do alot of on line racing so it is a bit disconcerting when it stops during a race :D
I believe I am running in "on line mode" as the extractor logs on the the web site prior to allowing me the send data from the extractor.

(Ps. nearly got another video of my motion together: trying to do a bit more of a professional job with the editing.)

Granted I havent used my sim this week, but I will check on Friday. It could be an online mode, I have a stage 2 key and run offline for x-sim, but I play online for race 07 servers. I will try online as well later in the week.
The only other thing I can think of is, plug in the usb direct to the motherboard and not via a front port.
I had issues relating to that ages ago.
You may need to fiddle with JRK utility settings as well. That could be causing issues.
Match the ms rate in x-sim to jrk, so if its 25ms in jrk, change to 25 in x-sim.

Hi Bruceaust,

have you solved this "Comport errors" - or no change? First I got the same errors everytime with my two Jrk's. Now chance to get any motion...

With a fresh install of win7 x-sim works * BUT while hours using the sim I got the "Comport error" again. First I thought this happens random ( ~ 1 time per 3 hours). Now I think it happens if "effects" become really distinctive!?

Like posted - equally here usb plug out and in is the only solution.

Best regards

YokoYoko, do you have problems again?

OK, can you post pics of your JRK utility settings?
Have you got too harsh motion somewhere?
Have you backed down the motion to try top stop errors?
Have you got heatsinks and fan cooling on JRKS?

No "big" problems (in my opinion). It's weekend and I used the fresh ready sim very much this days. At a complete using time of 10hours I got two or three times the "comport errors" for both of the Jrk's at the same time. I noticed that I reach "max current" in the error settings of the Jrk's (set max. current to 10A). The both Jrk's have 14x14mm heatsinks installed and are mounted in two cases with 40x40mm fan mounted.

I think the errors are related to "harsh movement". I noticed this when my girlfriend was driving - she had a collision at highspeed and hitted the wall very hard. Simultaneously with this the "comport error" came on "converter pc". Can say (now) if this is reproducible.

If this happened and I want to access Pololu confi Utility I get an "firmware error" for the Jrk's. After plug out and in usb everything works again like before.

Here the screenshots of confi:

I will try a "limiter" at end of th math line, ok?
Effects are now :
lateral -70%
longti - 70%
verti - 5%
pitch / roll - 25%
every effect with "add value".

What value would you recommend for a limiter, is 90% ok?

Hi yokoyoko, think I am having the same problems a you!

The problems now seem to be getting worse. "Error writing on com 8" (or 9) and the sim freezes. I am at a loss to know what to do. I have tried changing every setting I can think of but the problem still persists. A shame, as my sim is really working well ( wen it works :D )

I am still trying hard to fix this problem. let me know if you have any luck.
