Using video motion plugin on live feed

Postby floriske » Thu 5. Apr 2012, 21:09

I was wondering if it's/or will be possible to use the video motion plugin on a live video feed?

A friend of mine has his own tuning company including race team. They all use data loggers and we are thinking about streaming live video from the car and data from the data logger so someone can experience the race from the paddock on a motion sim.

Is this possible or will it be in the future?

P.s. The data loggers send serial data containing the telemetry data

Possible if you use vlcplayer as receiving application.
Flash will not support 3rd layers of info.

And how about simply streaming the video and have the force sender handle the data from the data logger in the background.

Could result in sync problems, but these are easy to overcome by delaying either the video feed out the data logger feed.

Can the force sender handle the serial data from the data logger?

You did not wrote which exactly stream you are thinking about.
You must see it from the side of the programmer, if you need to sync something you need a interface. In this case for example the milisecond output of the stream. Microsoft delivers this from the mediaplayer as standard and it is free.
You can try to buy this interface from the stream licence provider (e.g. adobe) or you can make workarounds.
For my case the vlc has the biggest inovation here.
Predelays and so on are included in the current player. You setup the hardware delay one time.

I was thinking the following:

• send video and datalogger data live from car to paddock.
• show video stream in a player supporting delay settings (if nescesairy)
• let x-sim handle de datalogger data (serial) realtime and convert it into motion

If I understand correctly this shouldn't be a problem? Nice! Will get back to you on how to handle the serial data from the logger as soon as we get to it (need to finish my sim first ;) )

Yet another (and different) question:

Since the new X-sim has a video card driver which creates motion out of in game video (if I'm correct) would it be possible to capture the video of e.g. an Xbox 360 with a capture card and generate motion for it? Or am I misunderstanding the video card driver?

The graphic driver (there is no "video" slogan anywhere) will get the current game telemetry from the game developer. It does not look at your screen.

So is the graphics driver use similar to the plan of operation plug free? Woudl I be able to use this with something like Bf3? or other FPS games with vehicles or to feel movement from explosions/gunshots?
