How To Test Your Wiper Motors And Pots Max/Min.

Postby robcoll » Sat 23. Feb 2013, 18:52

Hi...My Name I s Robert From Usa Florida (Miami)...I Need Help To understand The mechanical configuration of my Simulator..
I have Build a 2DOF Using Wiper Motors , 30a converter,400 comp power supply And Pots...I have installed the K8055 and the sabertooth 12x12....The pots are mounted directly into the shaft, and they can turn 360...

The connections:
5v max. to the pots and they connected to k8055 at A1-A2
from k8055 out to DAC1-DAC2 into===> S1-S2 of the sabertooth. and both grounded.
12vdc 30a applied to sabertooth on B+/B- and wiper motors connected to left M1+/M1- and right M2+M2-..
k8055 pins sk2-sk3 removed. and usb cable connected to computer...RIGHT?

Run a text on k8055 demo and motors and pot feedback are active..motor spin up/dwn pots move up/dwn

The Config/test:
Run Xsim xtractor and load a profile for 2DOF Wipers...go to Drive Motor page and select PlUGIN( for testing..
Run Xsim converter select Math Setup and creat 2 Axis (axisM1-axisM2)..

Control Output of axis (axisM1) and (axisM2)
Reference input/output (k8055 Nr0 analoque input A1/output 1(DAC1)

Reference input Calibration
Pots Max-travel up 3640655632 Minimum travel down 701564627

Go to Output Setup:
Sequences to move in POSITIVE direction:........................... Sequences to move in NEGATIVE direction:
Sequencestep 1 with 10ms delay after execution ........................Sequencestep 1 with 10ms delay after execution
1-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 3640655872 .......1-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 701651627
2-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 701651627 ..........2-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 3640655872
Output to set to STOP
0-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 21168743735
1-Set Ouput K055d Nr 0 Annaloque Output 1 to 21168743735

Interface input set to 50%(for the motor to stop Turning...

I NEED HELP HERE...On Calibration Setup: If add sequence for axis positive direction..will turn positive direction infinite..the same with negative direction...if add center axis it jerk and will pick any infinite direction...What Im doing WRONG...
Can Someone Help Me to Understand or facilitate the right Config/test for max/minum? .....Thanks

Did you follow instructions from another project or just doing it yourself?
If motors are functioning fine in k8055 demo, they should also work in X-sim, so I guess it is matter of xsim setup, not motor connections.

I actually never used Calibration Setup
I've setup dynamic speed in sequences and calibrate the center of motors in Math Setup with calibration offset slider.

Have you tried setting up sequences with Dynamic Speed? One axis -90% dynamic speed in positive and negative direction, and stop is at 50% analog integer. And the other axis will be 90% positive and negative direction, stop sequence also at 50%.

Kevin's project is one of the best here ragarding K8055 + Sabertooth setup, if you follow his instructions there is a little room for mistake..

Yes indeed I have read Kevin setup...line by line...used his dynamic setup.. still the motors run out of control in a continues yer-kind of mode....I have set it up to use the Effekt 21:slider 1 from the math setup output 1.1(G force)with the Max 1000 and minimum 1 and split.. and if I move the 21 slider from the center it jerk back and foward....I have tryed every different setup from the forum and I have not been able to bring the simulator from center up or down..in Interface setup I can see the pots as the motor push the simulator up... pots number increments it get to the 85% limits and just keep going all the way 100%.. arround and back to 0% ... defenelly there is something Im MISSING...

Hmm, I don't know about forum setups, I did all my stuff from scratch following Kevin's project, but in the end I needed to do something different, for example I had to invert dynamic speed for one axis in negative and positive directions, from -90% to +90%, because it was moving in wrong way. Also need to be careful with selecting interface outputs, you know, I had Left Axis is Input A1 to Output 1, and other axis Input A2 to Output 2. If you select wrong outputs while creating sequences, motor will behave like out of control, spinning and jerking.

Can you make a screenshots or video capture maybe of your Output settings, for both axis? It will be easier to see where is a mistake, from your first post I'm having troubles to understand what have you exactly did in Output Setup. I see Output 1 everywhere and nowhere Output 2 for second axis.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood me, I thought screenshots of Output Setup in Converter program. But anyway, by the looks your hardware is connected properly, so it can be x-sim setup problem..

OK...Just read somewhere out the forum (cant find the page now) any way ..that xsim3 can not been running on Win XP 32 bits (oh Boy  )..It need Directx 11 or higher in order to load the Profiles for motion  ...I have On My test Computer at work where I building the simulator Win Xp 32 bits with Directx 9.....My actual computer where I got the FSX is is at home I7 quad core 3.40 with Win 7 (64) with Directx 11....

Its That Where my problem is?....or for the testing is irrelevant....!!!!

that would be a start to put in win7 on that pc, may not be the problem, but sounds like you need to do that anyway.
