This is a weird one,
Motors move in utility, so thats good.
Dunno otherwise.
Bob, I will have to leave this one to you.

Hi Motiondave,

thank you for supporting. Without your help during planing the sim and sorting out wiper prob's - I would not be able to move the motor with utility. :!:

I hope the rest would work soon, too. I will post my CAD-files, a shopping list and other useful stuff this weekend I think.

Thinking out of the square, I know this will be alot of time to reset and understand if you dont want to, but if you could do a clean install of Windows7 and Xsim on the laptop you wish to use for XSim.? Might be an existing error in the registry failing xsim or something silly like that.

That is the same I tought of. Renewing Win is always a pain (in my opinion), but everything important was backuped ans so I refreshed it in about two hours.

:!: :!: :!:
Success
With a fresh Win7 --> fresh Pololu driver and fresh X-sim everthing works incredible good for first test. I just reduced Effect 25 to 50% as Effect 27.

Thank you so much for helping me!!! It is so much fun using the sim and it would not be possible without you!

Annoying something like corrupt Win has caused this second problem but good to know now where the mistake has been.

Mistakes:
1.) Potential and Ground problem (depending on motordirection)
2.) Something in Win7 that caused Comport errors

I builded cases for the Jrk's with fan's mounted and applied heatsinks to them.
Tomorrow or at the weekend I will post further Info's, pics, vids and co.

For now I just want to play - amazing great fun.

Again!!! Thank you so much.
Best regards

Re: 2 DOF Wiper-SimforceGt + Pololu problems (solved)

Here a short first video of sim in use. Just using 3 effects so far and scaled them down at end of math line (so more movement is possible but for first tests and understanding I reduced this a bit).

Normally I play with my Epson TW5500 on 120" (even more fun) but with daylight and for video I used the bedroom tv. This is just my first test. The sim is running since yesterday and I have only since august a steering wheel (before I played with gamepad!!!). I think a big evolution :D
But now I am hooked.

Plans to come in sequence:

- pedal assembly in aluminium too
- wiring more beautiful/clean
- mount for mouse, keyboard and 2nd screen
- case for the wiper's (just the rod comes out)
- case for full electronic (powersupply + Pololus)
- Steering mounting more stable
- stronger power supply (I reduce the Jrk to max acc=200, max duty=200, max current=10A and want to power up a bit)
- Curved Screen direct mounted to rig
- 3 dof (traction loss) with wiper
- bigger steering wheel for the g25
- load cell for brake
- or fanatec csw ^^

so far my wishlist... until 24.dec

Nice looking job there, and as long as it moves well, you are set.

Hi BobBuilt - you are correct. As first price I can offer you a grilled Jrk

The existing Sim will be slightly modified and more framework will be added. This will be attached to the frame you can see on the picture on prev post. The unit in the front of the TV-bracket is a front wheel bearing of a Opel (Vauxhaul) Astra G which I changed to my desires.
The existing sim will be mounted on this wheelbearing. At the end of the sim I will use a "kind of linear unit" with the radius of the "leverarm" (1,60m) for very easy movement and up to 1600N of forceresisting... also plates of PTFE (delrin stuff) will be used - hope everything will work. I ordered a third 12v12 and another Wiper for first try. But I have also ordered 3 piece - 25:1 gearworm motors like Floris uses and another Power supply for the next stage up.
The angle of movement is set to ~9° for first tries. This will give me ~30cm movement at the end of sim - or ~25cm where I sit. I desinged and calculated everything in Dassaults Catia and there everything is fine (FEM; kinematics; co).

Sorry for the short explain but this time(!!!) I document every step very detailed with pictures and will post when everything is ready.

Best regards

Re: 2 DOF WiperSim + Pololu problems (solved) + traction los

Postby yokoyoko » Thu 20. Sep 2012, 18:46

@ Bob:
the best thing is that once you finished noting it all down
into one post

I'm already doing this at the moment and pick just the interesting and NOT confusing parts out of the thread and write it into a new "word document". I hope to post this as soon as possible (also pictures for sirnoname). But I want to do this build this time with more quality and detail solutions take a lot of time. There are also "old" mistakes I want to get rid of this time.

In my opinion for 3dof (while using it for racing games) the traction loss is the most logical way to go. When I compare my sim to my Porsche (use it sometimes for trackday too  ) - the thing I miss in simulation while racing the most is defintly the feel of the "buttmeter" (you know this term? in german: Popometer) - if you are getting out of "traction circle".

The only thing to come is a quality brake! I hate the G25 pedals so much ^^
Loadcell and Leobadnar board is ordered already :D

I love this new hobby!

Best regards

Love your work so far and am very curious about your traction loss setup: could be an inspiration for some of us ;)
