G-seat for flight sims

Thanks for having stripped your seat! I'll watch your video tonight...

I'm curious : Can you explain why did you use 2 arduinos? as only 1 arduino can drive the 4 motors together. You expected to have a better refresh rate?

Found this over at the Benchmark Sims website (Falcon 4.0 mod) and I'm really impressed with it. Back about 8 years ago I tried to build a G-Suit system and long term plans were to add a belt tightener and an inflatable seat cushion but I could never get the G-Suit to work like I wanted so the rest got scrapped too. This overall is a great idea and I'm really liking the G-Seat idea that you guys have been doing over here! It is a good bang for your buck method and space efficient also!

I like how you tied into the belt tension directly to the seat flaps for a simple and effective design. But what linkage did you use from the belt wheels to the flaps?

I asked over at your Youtube page about if you use a TrackIR and I see at your website that you do. Is there enough movement that the TrackIR picks it up and changes your view?

Do you ever fly Falcon mod BMS 4.32?

Overall though, I'm pretty excited about the whole G Seat thing!

Hi Snake122,

thanks for your nice post! I'm sorry your G-Seat building didn't work out for you!

what linkage did you use from the belt wheels to the flaps?

My seat uses two different mechanical units for the back resp. the seat flaps/belts. The assembly can bee seen on some of the pictures here: http://meintourenbuch.net/simpit/g-seat-pictures I tried to keep it as simple as possible and therefore looked for a way to drive the belts and flaps each with one single motor. There might be other sulutions to this, but this setup is what fitted best into the limited space available inside the seat.

Is there enough movement that the TrackIR picks it up and changes your view?

No, the movement of the seat does not affect the view at all! Thats the point in the G-Seat approach: the body is not really moving, you just feel the onset or removal of pressure and the brain interprets it as acceleration.

Do you ever fly Falcon mod BMS 4.32?

Although I flew Falcon 4.0 I have not tried BMS yet!

Hi Bergison,

I emailed you through your webpage a few weeks back and left a message on your youtube video but did not receive any reply.

I'm currently building a force feedback seat similar in design to what you have done. Thanks for posting photos and a thread here on x-sim. It has been very helpful. I hope to hear back from you if you find the time.

Hi Riftflyer!

I answered your post on my website but did not receive your email. Please be so kind and send it to my private account: christian.berghold@gmx.at

There is also a thread on the ED forum where I answered some questions regarding the seat: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122577

That's ok, it was a long time ago and the G Suit pneumatics were the biggest challenge.

I can definitely see that you made a efficient setup as I saw at your site. I'm trying to find out what is the specific ball joint linkage types that go from the wheel to seat flap and also seat belt wheel to motor. They look like maybe car shifter linkages that go from the motor to wheel. Are the off the shelf parts or ones you made?

No, the movement of the seat does not affect the view at all! Thats the point in the G-Seat approach: the body is not really moving, you just feel the onset or removal of pressure and the brain interprets it as acceleration.
I agree! I just know the TrackIR can be pretty sensitive, glad to hear it is a non-issue (and thanks for the double reply to me over at Youtube). It's a lot like learning to fly and you finally learn to cobtrol the yaw with how you feel in the seat. Those are really small changes, something like this will be great. I also love the belts, it remeinds me of the first time I went inverted in a plane and was hanging in the harness!

Although I flew Falcon 4.0 I have not tried BMS yet!
That's really the inly thing I see potentially stopping me from doing this, I pretty much only fly Falcon. I dabble with DCS and others, but anything I do is Falcon first. I've started to play with the x-sim software and hopefully can make it work.

Very cool stuff. I have decided to build one very similar, and have begun ordering parts. I, too, only fly BMS, so we'll see if I can make it work over there.

I'm sure I'll have a million questions once I things start to arrive and I begin to assemble parts.

what advices could you give to someone who want to start such a project?
what have been the difficulties you encountered?

can you share some pics? or do you have a vid on youtube? :)
