For those following my thread, I had the electrical panel installed today. You'll notice the panels in the top of the picture. Here in the US we use 110v as standard power, I think outside the US they use 210-230? I had to run 6 220v, 20 amp circuits, one for each motor. I'm getting that much closer to testing. Waiting for my board from Thanos, my brake resistors and my 24v power supply.

I'll keep you posted....... :D

My 300w 200ohm brake resistors came in. I installed them as you can see in the pics. Once my board comes in I can hook it up to see how she moves!!

I am doc, thanks for the compliment! Once I get the rods and arms completed I will mount the upper platform and see how she moves. Looking forward to seeing it go! :D

I decided to make the final upper platform out of aluminum for the weight. Your feelings on that??

Thanks,
Stevent

Heya Stevant1

She still looks good :)
I'm looking forward to seeing your new aluminium platform. I'm a big believer in alloy (check out my other platform/build on this site ...and the CNC is alloy too). There's nothing like a rust free material that lite and strong.

With respect to the ball joints, I will agree with Riton about seeing if they'll soften up. Additionally, they would need to be pretty damn stiff in order to cause too much grief for your motors to worry about.

Maybe a video to show just how stiff they are?

Cheers,
DrD

Hey Doc, (Your platform looks awesome!)

My new HEIM joints will be in tomorrow. I will shoot a before and after video showing both joints. I mounted my old chair to my temporary platform to see what it is going to look like. I went for a ride of course on x-sim test mode. Works great. I know it will be much smoother with the new joints as the current joints bind due to the injection molded plastic in the joint. These are definitely not for this application, way to heavy duty. I know you cannot feel it but I know you'll see a smoother movement in the platform. Here are a few pics of the chair mounted.

Thanks for everyone's input. I truly appreciate it. I will be mounting my new platform later this week and will also be putting my triple screen setup in place. I'll load pics and video when I get to that point. Attached is a pic of my setup I will be placing on my platform. I will not be placing the entire setup, the base you see there will be removed. Only the seat and the sides going up to the screens will be mounted. A picture tells a thousand words as you will see when I'm at that point. :)

Sincerely,

Steve

Hot damn, nice work S-man :)
...the dream becomes a reality

Those rod end bearings and control rods sure look like they could lift a truck. Each.

A truck and then some. :D The wood upper platform is temporary as you know, just awaiting the metal permanent one to be completed. The only issue I am experiencing now is when I raise my (P) on my Thanos board which of course makes the paltform that much more sensitive the platform will shutter and shake during certain movements. It only does this when the motion is more abrupt. You feel all the vibrations. I am attributing it too the temporary platform and the mounting of the arms to it. They are only bolts going through the 3/4" plywood edge. They could be moving and stressing in different directions as the platform moves causing the shutter and vibrations. The upper platform will be very much like yours Doc's with the rods going through into a center triangle to carry the stress. Am I thinking the right way? Could it be anything else as I won't know exactly until I mount the new platform. At the current setting, it moves very smoothly, but it does need to move faster to be on exact time with my X-Plane.

Your thoughts??

Thanks!!
