2DOF seat mover, JRK's and worm gear motors

Postby GhostNI » Fri 16. Aug 2013, 00:06

Hi,
Defo an early work in progress of my plans and my progress to date
My rig at the minute....
PVC Rig

Decided on a seat mover and working from viewing plans from MotionDave and yokoyoko I have came up with these sketches in Sketchup 2013 :D
I will cut down my current rig from the seat backwards to leave steering wheel etc untouched until new motion part is up and running.
front

back

Search 2dof motion sim in 3D Warehouse if u want a download of my sketch :)

I will be adding a front half to hold steering wheel and pedals etc as soon as the motion end is built and also after all that maybe adding a traction loss option. (something similar to YokoYoko's rig.
Front half and back half will be separate builds but bolted together and the front of cockpit will be on sliders to adjust leg room.

Started shopping and so far got
2 JRK 12v12 boards
UK stock http://proto-pic.co.uk/pololu-jrk-12v12 ... -feedback/
US stock http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1393

EDITED
2 90ZYT-155-12-GH1356 motors http://www.motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/ ... /24/zyt90-
155_12v_traction_motor_04_nm/
These motors I ordered thinking they were the same as Prodigys motors (same model number) but they are keyend instead of D end which involves buying a way more expensive gearbox than the £20 mcp4s.
I found this out after speaking to Zach from motioncontrolproducts uk.
I told him I meant to buy these motors with the mcp4 combo and they dont sell them any more.
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 0393781762

Anyway he knew of the demand for these motors on the x-sim forums and has told me they are going to re stock this combo :)
Im planning on returning my motors and getting the ones I originally wanted.
Just letting u all know incase u plan to buy these motors which were originally delisted :)

u-joint from a Yamaha 1981 XJ650 motorbike propshaft. (search ebay for yamaha u joint or any other motorbike make)
shopping

]Next on my shopping list are the 2 MCP 4 Gearboxes for the motors and the aluminium profile for the frame.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25-1-MCP-4-Ge ... 19c9478c8f

I plan on buying the from KJN http://aluminium-profile.co.uk/acatalog ... _Slot.html
They will precision cut to order and seem to have everything I will need to joint the frame together.
40x40 http://aluminium-profile.co.uk/acatalog ... tml#SID=29
80x40 http://aluminium-profile.co.uk/acatalog ... tml#SID=29
Think this is the stuff YokoYoko used (feel free to correct me)

Once I have the frame and motors mounted etc I will then continue shopping for the power supplies etc.
Plan on these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-45A-600W- ... 337d636e4e

Cant wait to get started and I'm sure I will need loads of help so watch this space

This is my plan for the front of rig  It can be bolted to the rear section and removed when needing to move house etc.
I will decide on a triple monitor mount later on in build.
sliding cockpit

I plan to use these sliders in between the base and lower base of front section so the pedals and wheel etc can be moved toward and away from you depending on your leg room needs.

I will lock the sliding cockpit in the desired position with these locking levers :D

Updates to follow

The aluminium parts are the correct one's! 40x40mm is pretty stiff - the right choice if you want to go for traction loss later. Perhaps 30x30mm is stiff enough, but I never calculated them for this use.

Very good idea with the sliding parts between the two profiles! --> I think I will copy this ;-)

If you need any further dimensions from my rig please ask.

EDITED
I made an error ordering my motors, see OP.
Motioncontrolproducts will now be restocking this motor gearbox combo due to the demand from x-sim they had :)
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 0393781762
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 0751091855
These motors were delisted by motioncontrolproducts but will now be re stocked.
They currently sell the same model on the online store but are different. I didnt know about keyend and D
The geabox for these current motors are very pricey apparently.

Those motors are very good maybe even too good for JRK's, I had a lot of difficulties while setting them up, JRK's were returning me a lot of errors, especially when motors were loaded with me on the sim, it didn't work at all. I've tried a lot of PID settings and tuning but JRK's couldn't handle those motors under load. That resulted in me leaving my project aside for a few months * I will give my project one more chance soon, I'll try to reposition the motors far back with shoulder mount. If that doesn't work, I will probably sell my ZYT90 motors with gearboxes and return to wipermotors..

Wait some weeks and do not buy JRK's.
There comes some news in near future with similar solutions from another company.
However, after the holliday timezone, if the member has some time left to write it down.
Plugins are already written.
If a answer is correct or did help you for a solution, please use the solve button.
