2 Dof Arduino Simulator

Postby Tombo » Thu 8. Jan 2015, 23:16

Hello,
i decied to build a new 2 DOF Simulator driven by 2 DC Motors.
I had build my first Simulator ( If you can call it one  ) on a low Budget. I posted it here http://x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1150
I had a lot of fun at building it, but it worked not very well. It was very heavy and the Motors where weak. I was a little bit frustrated after all Problems i had.
I have done a lot more other Arduino Project and thought myself some electric skills. Not electric hopefully woll be no more Problem for me :)
I'll reuse the Seat, pedals an Wheel. Also Arduino and the HP Powersupply.

I've orderd 2 Gear Motors at Motion Supply in Uk with 60:1 Gearratio. I bought i right and left one.

Also I've orderd 2 Motomonsters. I want to drive each as a singe Hbridge. For powersupply I'll use 2 Hp Dsp600 one for each. Hopfully that's enough.
This time i want to build the upper structer out of aluminium profile.
I didn't order yet since I'm not shure about which one. There are three types avalible. A light, medium and heavy one. I dont know how to hold the wheel well and make it easy adjustable.

I made a litte sketch for the design. It's likely a common alu rig which I try to convert into motion. This is only a basic sketch since it's my first one i did and this Programms are confusing .

I'll would like to place the motors at the bottom in the Front.
While it takes some time for parts to arrive , I byed a dashboard at junkyard from a hyundai cheap. I would like to integrate this into my rig.
Inside there are some aircore meters and I'm able to drive them via a programmed loop or by hand via potentiometer. I hope i'll get this working with Obd2 feature.
Here is a little Video of pot control.

I hope this time it will be as much as fun as last time, and hopefully i'll have more fun at gaming. :D

Hi, Just wandered if the 2 geared motors you bought are adequate and powerful enough for your sim as i am just starting my 3dof flight sim and i'm looking for cheap alternatives to car wiper motors.

Hello,
if you are interested if got a datasheet of the Motors. They didn't arrived yet so i can't try anithing. But i've done a lot of research because i had the same Problem with wipers, and from all i've read thes Motors will be very good and strong, and should move my platform with no Problems.

But i'll report back if they arrive to me.

Thanks for the data Tombo, it'll be interesting to see these in action as they certainly look like they'll do the job and the price of them is very good. When they do turn up could you update your post as to there performance. Thanks Tony.

Hello, of course i'll do you can watch this thread for updates.
At the moment I'm waiting for some parts to arrive that i can start Building. Today the Motors arrived. The are very heavy, about 4-5kg each. I have to search arounf for my hbridge, i lost it somwhere in my room and the 2 Motomonsters I orderd did not arrive yet.
But note i've read something about this motors that they will draw very much current, up to 70A. Hopefully the Motomonsters in singlemode have enough power.
I made some detail pictures of motor Shaft.Maybe useful.

Hi Tombo, just wandering if you've had a chance to test out the new motors yet.
