Never ending evolving project

Postby gigilauda » Tue 13. Oct 2015, 16:40

Hi all,
this is my never ending evolving project that is started in 2010 and it went trough major improvement and modification during the last past 5 years
i will try to find a picture when i started it when i was sitting on a pathetic red camping chair with bass shaker attached..
Being Italian living in canada i was inspired by Ferrari and Canadian colors so the project it is all red and black.
it is a very sturdy wood frame mostly 2x4 with 2 main detachable parts, Seat Base and Wheel + Monitor Base
I have 6 bass shakers, 3 embedded in the car seat and 3 under the pedals the bass shaker are drive by SimCommader + 2 wi-fi receivers
Recently i added the support for triple monitors, Keyboard and mouse support, and arm rest with embedded logitech shifter and 20 switches button box driven by arduino megajoy.
Very recently i added home made 5$ analog or digital hand brake drive by the Arduino mega , Fan and Keyboard light control box driven by a second Arduino uno , a tm1638 for speed + rpm +gear drive by my third Arduino uno.
For the TM1638 i run x-sim extractor + second pc running the converters

My Next step it is to add a seat mover driven by the third arduino or maybe mega and with 2 wiper motors, i will post some sketch with my ideas
Another improvement i would like to do are Fuel gauge + Oil Temp gauge + Water Temp gauge all driven by servo motor and arduino
I already got 2 HP servers power supply a Monster Moto Shield and the 3 mini servos but will take a while to complete the project since i am running low on cash and need to buy the motors , rods and universal joint and frame material

New update, a prototype sequential shifter in progress!
Since i recently start playing Dirt Rally i needed a more responsive and easy access sequential shifter.
I got inspired by Bearatis post in peripheral project and i come out with my version based on the same concept.
I used an old Logitech Joystick, i stripped all the potetiometers and the wiring , i cut the base keeping just the anchor point and screw it on a piece of wood
i made a "axis eliminator" in plexiglass and screw it to the base that has 4 ready holes , i glued 2 microswitches into the plexiglass that will make the switch when the stick reach them, i use and old usb printer cable for the wiring and i solder the wires to the Normally Open terminals of the switches
the wires are now connected to my Aduino Mega with MegaJoy firmware , black and white wires to ground and red wire to Digital pin12 and green wire to digital pin13.
All work like a charm and the shifter buttons are recognized by windows and in the game YAY!

Next step will be a shift knob and shifter boot that i have already some cheap ideas, install it on my rig very close to the wheel
I will post some picture of the finish product.
since i had already the joystick that i payed 15$ on craig list, i had the wiring and the plexiglass the all cost of the operation was 3$ for the switches
