Pneumatic 6DOF

Postby Zoszko » Sat 24. Oct 2015, 11:54

Hey Fellow SimRacers,

I am working on a similar project like misterfarmer's except it's bigger. I am using 500mm reinforced cylinders with servo valves a flow controller for each of these valves.
I know it's gonna be huge, but I like the idea of it being huge.

I was looking at various builds here, but I could not find any data on how should I place the cylinder expect the fact that the group of cylinders are 120 degrees form each other and the top frame is rotated by 60 degrees.

How do I calculate the diameter of the mounting points and the distance between the platforms?

billo2404 have posted some pictures with actual dimensions on DoctorD's thread, but not actual formulas.

Please help!

Hello zoszko,

I could not find any information about sizes etc also. so i started watching images on google. After that i decided to make to excactly the same triangles.

after some testing things in sketchup, i decided to do it the most tricky way, so i started to make 6 excactly the same plates where the cilinders wil be connected. after that i mounted everything. so al the cylinders where connected. I was wondered because i could excactly make a triangle with it on the ground. so i thought when i measure the size between attachment points with cylinders in and make that the distance between the attachment points.

i don't know if it is excactly alright but it worked for me, everything is moving (except yaw is doing strange to one side).

Mayby it's the wrong choice i made but it will help you a little bit.

Hi!

When considering my decisions I think I made a small mistake. I need to make the platform a little bit bigger. Because when the cylinder is in the middle.
The angle of the platform needs to be 60 degrees. I measured the length with the cylinder in. I think this will give the problems with the yaw on my platform.

I hope I can try this next weekend.

Well I have been working on this yeasterday and figured out the right dimensions. It's going to work, there is no collision.

In the mean time I have spent some time working on my code, however misterfarmer sent me his code (twice, thanks mate!), but I have made mine so I know my way around it.

Here's a short video where you can see the lenght of each cylinder:
