2DOF heavy wiper motors 24V

Postby BoTa » Mon 6. Apr 2020, 16:03

Hi,
here I will document my project to my 2DOF platform piece by piece.

The platform should be strong enough to move the whole frame.
Therefore my choice was a 24V wiper motor for big buses.
I found it at the company VALEO. (ca. 160€ each)

Valeo Wiper Motor 401.821 24V

The cardan joint under the platform is printed with a 3D printer.
And here it is:
3D printed Cardan Joint

After two days of 3D print: The cardan joint.
Double ball bearing.
The middle part is printed with 100% infill, the other two parts are printed with 50% infill.
The whole thing feels very stable and heavy.

Powersupply is arrived:

Order for the motor controller has been placed
Sabertooth Dual 2x32A 6V-24V
Sabertooth Dual 2x32A 6V-24V

Today I will design the engine mount.
This will also be produced in the 3D printer.
Challenge: The engine mount has to support the engine and the expected forces of the push rods.
This will be printed as a prototype Tonight.
Motor Mount

the next challenge:
what kind of potentiometer do I need and where do I take the speed / angle of rotation.
On the back of the wiper motor is no shaft outlet

Hello,

One doubt regarding dc motors...metal plate fixed to motor axis has been done by yourself or it came together with dc motor?

On the other side, would you be so kind to share 3D data cardan file?

Thanks in advance

That is interresting. From the material I know, the joint will break immediatelly.
Can you write some details about this print?
Is it full material?

Hi,
the cardan joint is printed with 80% infill.
It makes a very stable impression.
Even a jump on the joint works.
Remember that the joint is mounted in the middle of the center of gravity. This means that it only has to take load from above.
Even lateral forces can be absorbed by the construction without problems. The ball bearings distribute the forces optimally to the printed elements. Therefore 2 ball bearings per side.

OK, the motor mounting as a 3D object is quite nice, but nice is not enough.
Unfortunately the construction can't absorb the forces.
Therefore I will simply use 100mm bent sheet metal (angle plate).
It is cheaper and much more stable.

Sure, I can share the cardan joint.

HI!!!!

Any further improvements in your project. Seems very interesting for me your construction because I also want to make a "strong" long lasting one

Keep the hard work on!!!

Cheers

Could you please tell me if any idea of the "weight" the driver could be (or the motors can handle)?. I'm 120 kg and don't know who to calculate if the torque is enough for me

Thank you in advance
