I received my 2 motors! The gearbox is printing as I write this.

The motors are well built, the wires of the coils of the motor are seem to have a good diameter, I think this is going to work!

First tests!

I assembled 1 part of the gearbox (first reduction stage 12:1) it's in plastic, it's strong, doesn't strip or break or lose steps.
Seems to me like a reasonable assumption that it will take the torque.

Now I have to print the other reduction stage, I had some problems with my 3d printer I had to reassemble the X axis, so that's why I couldn't progress this faster, this week I won't be there either so I'll post back in a week for updates.

Hokay!

So I built the gearbox, I've put the motor on it, it works!
It turns very slowly though, far too slow and yeah the motor takes a LOT of current to get going, I had to try it on my truck battery..

So the gearbox is too inefficient in plastic (it's all ABS plastic right now) and there is some restriction in it due to inaccuracies..
So I'm not sure yet if this is worth pursuing, however, I know that these kind of motors come from cordless drills and there is a gearbox in those drills, maybe it's useable?

Another good one is the gearbox in the front of angle grinders, very strong and right angle too.

angle grinders....good idea, and I can get them for $20 each, complete grinder

Interesting!! What kind of gearbox ratio are we talking about though ?

Also... My motor is at peak torque efficiency at 16'000 RPM and the current demand is "only" 10 amps!

So if I can get it going to 16KRPM without ever changing it's speed, using a cvt and a neutral point I could have something quite good to play with..
I still need to find a way to reverse this without stoping the motor (planetary gear reversal?).
I have several advantages over a simple gearbox.. There is no need to have a H-Bridge to drive the motor, you keep it's speed at max rpm and when it reaches <16KRPM you change the gearing to keep Over 16 KRPM..

The control motor needs to be a simple servo.

I need to design something like this now :

**Btw Guys, I don't know where you get your power supplies, but you can find good ones on hobbyking.com :
