wiper motor getting too hot

Postby ferslash » Tue 26. Feb 2013, 08:15

guys, i am doing the first laps in my seat mover, using pololus jrk and wiper motors, the thing is tha one of them, is getting too hot, that much that i had to stop using the sim (i used for 30 mins)

bouth motors are different, but one is hot and the other is totally cool, any ideas?

both motors has a computer fan to help up cooling them

best regards from mexico

A high proportional of derivative setting will also drive you motors harder and get to hot! I put some cooling fins on the wipers also - make them from aluminium angle and a couple of large hose clamps.

I had the same problem, two different wipers, one of them was weaker, probably more used and this one was heating more.

What do the brushes and the commutator look like?

How long are they still?

Can you feel a groove in the commutator with your fingernail? What colour does it have?

Bearings binding?

wow! what a nice and kind replay, thank you all of guys :D

i will do as you recommend me, check for the amperage going to the motors via the jrk configuracion tool, if not, i will try to clean them or replace them.

* i have at first two similar motors, but one got broken (i think that goint to the yunke yard has not been a grate idea :(, then i replaced the broken one with a similar, but different one... by the way, the one that gets hot has a tremendous torke.

thanks guys

Just a comment, when I first got my big worm gear motors, they are rated at 180w (new ones are 200w and more efficient), I was overdriving them to 500w, and they got real warm, but nothing a fan wouldnt cool.
