K8055+Sabertooth 12x2+ Wiper motors

Postby Tiger » Fri 31. May 2013, 14:41

Hello all,

I came across this website years ago and finally decided to build one. Just completed the structure, very excited to give it a go.
So, I plugged in my power to test Wiper motors (Sabertooth + Pots) but it doesn't seem to make any different in speed when I turn my pots? Any ideas?
NO, I haven't mounted my pots onto the structure(platform) yet. Just wanna make sure everything works b4 I break my Pots.

My Platform idea came from Joyride design, I have one motor to move lateral and one to move longitudinal.

Regards,

The pot is used as position feedback and not as speed control.
In one position you should get stopped the motor.

Thank you for responding, Sirnoname,

I didn't even get the motor to stop when I turn slowly. I was hoping it would stop at a certain position?

Here is my setup,
I have 12 v supply to sabertooth and connected to M1 + & - to my motor,
5 v supply to pot (3 prongs, middle prongs connected to Sabertooth S1 input. other 2 prongs connected to 5v + & -)

May be I can't check it this way, I don't know??
Could you help me?

Regards,
Tiger

The sabertooth cannot have a pot connected, it is connected to the K8055d.

Hello Again,

I m having a little bit trouble understand the how to get my motor in neutral position. When I plug in my usb to K8055D, (with all motors and Sabertooth connected, Pot connected to K8055D as per kevin123's schematic). Now What software do I run first to set up my motors position? is it the Demo came with K8055D, or X-sim converter or extractor? I am at the stage to add axis to run my platform but the motor kept spinning and can't get it to stop?

Please help...... :?

Hi, no the demo is only for some test. All done in X-Sim. The pot should have middle position if the simulator is in middle position.

At this point you find alot of difficulties and problems.
So I would like to ask you to think about a real servo controller instead of the velleman workaround.
Do you have the chance to get a arduino UNO or Nano? Here at eBay about 10€ for a arduino nano.
This would help you big steps forward! And you can sell the velleman ...
Vellemans are for pneumatic control and this e motor workaround do cost much of your time. In the end you have PD control instead of PID control with arduino. The type of movement is not compareable.
(Of course you can also have a look to the more expensive and ready builded interfaces in our interface gallery, this is your project)
Sabertooth will be used anyway.

HI Sirnoname,

If I m not mistaken, working with Aduino Uno require programming, doesn't it? I don't know anything about programming.
I could easily pick up one (aduino Uno) but what do I go from here? Would you have any schematic of how the set up would look like?

Thanks again

No programming, there are several different firmwares available.
Look in our interface section in the project gallery.
The open source firmware is directly supported with a plugin. There you find schematics and wiring infos. If there are question open, ask them with giving the sabertooth infos you have (pdf, pictures etc.)
