theorical cuestion?

Postby ferslash » Thu 13. Sep 2012, 21:24

as far as i understood, to have your sim running you need

1. control board
2. h-bridge to control motors (or actuators or etc)

control boards are a little expensive... the question is... can you replace the control board (let's say welleman or the tronic amc card) with a cheap arduino card?

could it be done? or arduino is just usless.

i ask this question because last days i have been some arduino cards and they are really simple to construct or cheap to buy so... i just wander. :D:D:d

Yes and no...

Arduino needs programming from your part to make it work. And lots of wiring too. Also arduinos are not capable of high resolution PWM (only 8-bit pulses) and the same for their ADC (8-bit feedback). And there are issues trying to multitask all these together while receiving serial position data...

You could give it a try... as many others did before (but never reported back any real working code) ...

And that is why Tronic is looking at community funded cards to try. To see if he can find one that works well without too much hassle.....

I'm just tired trying to make boards... Too much work, which is not appreciated in the end.

And why bother with those new SMD Cortex-M3 microcontrollers? Its lots cheaper to get one ready with buttons and most interfaces already on-board...

And BTW... look what you can do with a nice microcontroller like this:

Thanks thanos :D:D:D !!!

again, i am glad i speended some money in the jrk's

about your cards, it is grate that you designed the control cards, but for newbies its chalinging source the parts and solder and all the stuff, but of course it is recognized by the community, i mean look at your amc topic, it is one of the most readed! i guess what is needed is a guy somewhere that sell them at a nice price :D (for us newbies)

* on the other hand, some time ago i was planning to do a virtual reality helmet, and as far as i remmember the price of the small lcd was tooo hi, do you think that using that cheap lcd (from the video you just posted up) you can get easily video? i mean, video from the computer in order to mount a couple of thouse lcd in a helmet?
