New ARDUINO DUE

Postby fooons » Mon 22. Oct 2012, 12:01

Hi XSimers,

Today Arduino launches a new board called Arduino DUE. It's based on ARM Cortex M3.

Some more info and PDF specs here:

Arduino home page is not updated jet...

This looks interesting... But they kept the same header offset as always...

I wonder if you can use other ARM toolchains on it instead just the arduino IDE and how.

For the same price you can get an STMF32 board with touch LCD...

Powerful hobbyist MCU controllers are now essentially "free" - even before this arduino ATMEL32 came long. That is the way I look at it. Relative to the price of an entire motion simulator, they're nothing. There are other factors to decide which one to use. Hmm.

I really wish I knew more about the DUE's IDE and how much of the board's power is available through it. And I suspect they'll come out with a "mini" version for half the price at some point. Still, sticking with an STM32-based solution feels more "open" to me.

And 1-2% cheaper, overall ;)
