Can I sit on the seat during set initial position

Postby sliversgyj » Tue 13. Aug 2013, 13:22

Can I sit on the seat during set initial position of SCN5.
For I can set initial position of SCN5 from min to max freely if Ieave the seat empty.
But If I sit on it,I can only change the position from small value to big value, but I can't change the value from big to small(but If I leave the seat,it is ok again)
That's mean the scn5 has enough force to push the seat, but not have enough force to pull it back.
It is normal?
And it that mean I had put my pivot in a wrong position, which cause the scn5 overload during pulling.
I have upload some pic as follows:

Seems to be a overload, wrong construction.

in such case, what should I do?move the pivot forward or backward?

hi sliversgyj ,

i your case i would say you must move the pivot forward. the overbalace with you in the seat is in forward direction.
the best pivotposition is, if you sit in the seat, feet from the ground(or slightly on the pedals) and you are absolut balanced on this special point.
the best thing is to determine the pivotposition with another person who hold your seat at the backframe while you balancing.
i think its better to determine the point without mounted scn5´.
i do the work alone and it tooks a few hours until i had the right point.
dont give up, for me this was the hardest part during my projekt.

gl and
best regards

thank for advice seppel!
actually,i set the pivot before just as you mentioned .but after that to let me sit more comfortable i had move the seat 3~4cm forward(that's mean move the pivot 3~4cm backward).is such small movement will cause such overload?

hello sliversgyj,

yes, the movement of 3 - 4 cm can cause such a overload. i move the pivot in 0,5 cm steps to the right position.
if you able to, plse post some pics of you rig so we can get a better impression of it.
do you place your pivot without the actuators?

I had move the pivot forward now,now it is almost ok,the pivot is just a little too forward now(when the left actuator is max,the right is min, sometimes will cause overload, when I just move my body is a little bit forward it will be ok again.I will try to move the pivot a little bit backward tomorrow.
I will show you the pic of my rig to have your advice tomorrow.Thank for your help!

Greetings,

http://www.miraiintertech.com/home/downloads/SCN5.pdf

Spec sheet for SCN5

Force - 10.2 kgf = 22.5 lbf
Torque - 5 Nm = 44.3 in-lbs

These actuators are not built for strength, but rather for speed and accuracy.
They also have a much weaker pull strength versus push strength.

5 lb (2.26 kg) can make the difference between overload or smooth movement.

Proper position of u-joint, balance and weight distribution is critical to having actuators working optimal. This is the most challenging part of using these actuators. It is worth the effort because of all the fun you will have when you are done and everything is working.
