ServoCity Linear Actuator

Postby LamS » Mon 23. Feb 2015, 23:54

Hi, new member in X-Sim and very impressed by the work of the community! I intend to build a 6DOF platform for Star Citizen, on the basis of the "Moog Platform". I'm doing research to find the best "low cost" electric linear actuator that can support enough weight for a Obutto R3volution cockpit (108 lbs) with me inside (220 lbs), the actuator of ServoCity reaches the target weight, but for speed... Do you think 2 inches/sec can do the job?

Parameters are continous work, speed and of course the power consumption.
How about continous work?

It depends a lot of the time that is available , lol, but I think 2 or 3 hours of continuous work (Week-End), would be realistic for my gaming profile...

You can verify this easy, if they offer a ball bearing at the spindle or a plastic nut ;)
SCN5 have ball bearing.

The scn5 has good speed, but in terms of the maximum load of 22 pounds versus 560 pounds for the Servocity the scn5 is clearly not in the running for my project, the Servocity also come up with a ball-screw and a duty cycle of 25% (25% on, 75% off) ... Hmmm. The issue of working continuously is really important, thank you Sirnoname, I had not taken that into consideration at the beginning ... I would hate to put several thousand dollard in a 6DOF system that would have a very limited operational life. I think I'm going to go with AC motor + gearbox (CKAS style), a bit more expensive but gears bathed in oil are virtually indestructible if the payload is respected, can also run as long as you can pay your electricity bill, lol, and maintenance is minimal with about a change of oil per year and maybe a oil seal in 2-3 years, so, Adios Linear Actuator!
