IMPORTANT: Board division Poll, please vote!

Postby floriske » Thu 7. Jun 2012, 10:59

For now there are 2 options for the new board divisions, please take a minute to look at them and vote which one you prefer:

If neither of them is to your likings or you have any remarks feel free to post them.

Edit: current projects module will stay active for now so people can copy/paste their project to the forum section.

Option 1:
News and information
- Is perfect, leave as is

Motion Simulator- Rename to Motion Simulator Building
- Remove the current 4 type specific forums (since questions about the various hardware can be posted in the hardware section)

This forum should be dedicated to building complete sims or peripherals, not single hardware item questions.

Create the following subforums:
- Motion simulator building Q&A (where people can ask general questions about sim building, not related to the various hardware sections)
- Motion simulator Finished Project Gallery (finished projects only, people can't start topics here and have to request permission in the "administrator" section first -> see below)
- Motion simulator Projects in progress
- Motion simulator designs (where people can show and share their design ideas and ask questions about it)
- Controllers and Drivers Projects (AMC, H-Bridges etc.)
- Peripheral Projects (dashboards, gauges etc.)

ADD: Motion Simulator Hardware
Here people can aks questions about hardware items, but also write guides on how to use it, the guides can be stickied.

create the following subforums:
- Motors (topics and questions about wipers, winches etc. etc.)
- Controllers and Drivers (topics and questions about AMC, h-bridges, JRK's etc. etc.)
- Actuators (topics and questions about actuators etc. etc.)
- Pneumatics and Hydraulics (topics and questions about pneumatics etc. etc.)
- Peripherals (topics and questions about dashboards, gauges etc. etc.)
- Other X-sim compatible hardware (topics and questions about other compatible hardware etc. etc.)

X-sim software
- Is perfect, leave as is "

ADD: Administrator section
Here people can report topics, contact admins/mods and request finished project topics

create the following subforums:
- Report a topic or post that is against the regulations
- Request a finished project topic (here people have to request and post finished project topics, after approval by one of the admins it will be moved to the gallery forum, this way the gallery forum stays nice and tidy).
- Contact a moderator or administrator (for all other administrative questions and issues)

Option 2:
News and information

- Peripherals (topics and questions about dashboards, gauges etc. etc.)
- Other X-sim compatible hardware (topics and questions about other compatible hardware etc. etc.)

Motion Simulator- Rename to Motion Simulator (building) Q&A
where people can ask general questions about sim building, not related to the various hardware sections, good topic can be stickied

- Rename "DIY motion simulator building Q&A/FAQ" to "Motion simulator General Q&A"
- Rename the current 4 type specific forums from " ......... motion simulator project discussions (no projects)" to " ......... motion simulator Q&A"

ADD: Motion Simulator Projects

This forum should be dedicated to building complete sims or peripherals, not to pre-building questions (that's what the Q&A is for).

Create the following subforums:
- Motion simulator Finished Project Gallery (finished projects only, people can't start topics here and have to request permission in the "administrator" section first -> see below)
- Motion simulator Projects in progress
- Motion simulator designs (where people can show and share their design ideas and ask questions about it)

- Contact a moderator or administrator (for all other administrative questions and issues)

I personally prefer option 1 because option 2 contains e.g. actuators in the hardware section ánd the projects section. But your vote is more important than my opinion!
I am no longer an admin/active moderator at http://www.x-sim.de. Please contact one of the other admins or moderators if you have any questions. Thank you!

Texte en Français:

Bonjour

Hello
The only weak point of this site is required to go through the English language
Knowing only very little English, I am forced to use Google Translation
This translation software makes posts difficult to understand

A forum for dialogue in the language of certainty would increase the volume and technical exchange between X-Simmer realization in all countries of the world.
It is sufficient that each post indicates the language used to make them accessible to all X-Simmers world through translation software adapted
This solution would allow me to facilitate exchanges in French, to easily exchange on X-Sim with other French and no distortion of the content of the post while allowing the X-Simmers world view these posts

Currently each X-Simmer métrisant do not the English language, search in their native language forum to exchange information on your Software Suite
This possibiité to use one's mother tongue, bring together the X-Simmers on your site making the site even richer information exchange
Currently this information is scattered when they should be grouped on-site X-Sim
To facilitate understanding of technical X-Sim, it 's really easy to talk in their language

Greetings and congratulations for your development of X-Sim3
Good luck for the developers and the community!

@Tfou57:

That's a very progressive idea but simply not achievable (for now).

Why? Because X-Sim is a specialized piece of software which has a "limited" amount of users and there aren't load of people all over the world who know a lot about it.

If the forum would be split into multiple languages this knowledge will be split as well and that wouldn't be a good thing.

offtopic:
I think is weird is that English is one of the main world languages, especially in IT and software but in a lot of countries it isn't thought at school properly :?:
Here in the Netherlands English is an obligatory class from the age of 11. But a lot of schools start with English class even sooner.

In my experience in a lot of countries people have too little knowledge of the English language, e.g. when on holiday in certain countries hardly anyone speaks English :?
Or eg. movies and TV shows are dubbed from English to the countries native language (I'm very glad they don't do this over here, but use subtitles instead! This is a good way to learn English as well)

Just my 2 cents NOFI

Its strange indeed. I was forced to learn English when I was kid as almost all kids in my age back then.
And I always hated when they were trying to dub English speaking movies or series in Greek. I was just refusing to watch them. Subtitles was my favorite too and helps.
BTW, I'm amazed on how many Greek words I see, used in English in science, philosophical and medical areas.

Texte de Français
Bonjour

Hhello
Thank you for your position I repecte.
For my part I have 55 years and I've only done two years of English school 40 years ago.
Not practiced since the foundation of English is limited more than some basic words
I do not think a special case
To communicate in the forum I am forced to use "Google translate" to read the posts and to write them. I like that post concient are difficult to decipher for a real English.
A text translation of any language into English as "Google translation" is deformed to 25% of its meaning Another X-Simmer, like me, to translate the new post to his mother tongue with "Google translate". There is again about 25% of incorrect translation.
So in writing a post via Google and rereading the same post elsewhere in the world almost 44% of poor tracduction and loss of comprehension of the text of the post If each X-Simmer published his post in the language they practice and that person idendifie clear language, this post is translatable over the world and anyone with 25% loss of comprehension.
Of course, people who know perfectly the English would interact primarily in English (international language)
The goal is to share X-Sim to any English-speaking community or not.
Without this ability to interact easily, forum or blog distribureont parallel tutorials and presentation of DIY simulators continue to develop then it would be preferable that all information is gathered on a single site
Greetings to all Simmers

At first was almost all German forum!!

Yes, and we lost about 3 very active members with the switch to english :(
Is there a phpbb translator plugin?

However, each person which say here "I will translate": I have to point to the many started threads which initiators have not started or finished their translation!
It is simple not possible because the guys who say they translate stop their work, mostly because of the difficult technical translations I think, some others say they have no time after some days.
So if they do not help this is also a nogo.
If a answer is correct or did help you for a solution, please use the solve button.

For website design and translation, is there an option to set up the site so as we can select a language? Say from a list a the top? I do recall seeing it done on some sites. Not simulator related though.

On an other subject relating to this site, 8 votes out of nearly 400 members, ergh. Still, got to give people time to think I suppose.
