absolute beginners questions

Hey there,

because i´m complete at the start of building my own motion simulator i got some minor questions before i start to build.
In the last days i´ve read alot about the materia and made my own thoughts with it.
Finally my decision felt on a 2dof simforceGT design with wipermotors.
In consideration of the costs and capabilities it looks like a good choice for a first project.
Basic concept is to use my ...

Wish to find out more on how 2 dof 15V Dc motors work

Hi Guys,
I am lucky to have my first 2DOF DIY motion rig custom built by MotionDave here. Had been enjoying the rig to the fullest for past three weeks! so much so that all my other hobbies shelve...Now i finally have time to seat down and reflect on how actually this 2 dof works.. Love to ask questions here so that other folks may benefit as well when they read the words of the ...

my 3dof setup

So, I've more or less have a design settled in my mind, but I'm stuck on the underside (motors, boards, power, etc)
for a 3dof setup, what do people recommend?
velleman? jrks?
what about motors?
I'm sure there are a lot of options, but I'm wondering what people found was the better way to go
(ie, it could work with wiper motors, but it works a whole lot better with "x" type of motor, for ...

Information on CKAS T2s motion platform

From my research so far it looks like most DIY constructors using AC motors use 550W 4 pole 3 phase motors, similar to those used by CKAS on their larger T5 platform. The T5 however carries a payload of 450kg whereas the more compact T2s has a payload of 220kg. The motors on the T2s are therefore smaller, probably 375W or even 220W. The problem is that there are so many options to consider re ...

where to apply force, from beneath or from rear of a seat

Hi guys:

I have seen two kinds of sims for race.

1. flex type, where the force is aplyed to the rear part of the seat
http://www.*.com/Portals/0/Labs/AGlimpse/016.JPG

2. dery - sato design (i dont know the name) where force is applyes from beneath of the seat

Image

considering a desing using wiper motors, is there a "better option" or both designs works just fine?

D-Box type motion using DC Motor/Gearbox units

Originally thinking of building a platform similar to Floriske (http://www.x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=129), using two DC motor/gearbox units I am thinking instead of using four of these units, one at each corner in order to obtain a D-Box type motion system, using the DC motor/gearbox units in place of expensive actuators. This would have the advantage of adding a third DOF (Heave) and also leaving the simulator much closer to the ground making it easier to get in ...

Potentiometer

Hello folks. I came across this site a few nonths ago and was inspired by what I found here. I decided to try and make a motion platform. I have some building skills but unfortunately no knowledge of electronics. This would be made by copying what other people have done and asking endless questions. I have started with a GTOmega racing rig which includes a racing seat (http://www.gtomegaracing.com/). My ...
